Armenia is a country of speaking stones
According to the biblical scripture Noah descended on the Mount of Ararat. And when he first stepped on the land, Armenia became known as the country of speaking stones.
We all know that modern Armenia is really one of the most ancient countries. The history of this country has started more then 3000 years ago.
Armenia is the first countries which adopt Christianity like her official state religion. It was in 301 A.D.
Today, this country is a small and mountainous. It is located directly in the South Caucasus between the Caspian and Black seas. We have to mention that Armenia has a very varied topology including ski areas, Sevan - a large mountain lake, gorges, valleys, canyons and mountain passes (in somewhat they are similar to the real Swiss Alps). Alpine meadows, snow-covered peaks of mountains, pomegranate groves, colorful subtropical regions, and arid valleys filled with the sun – all these have been called a real "paradise for artists".
With the appearance of the Ottoman Turks the darkest times came to the centuries-old history of Armenia. They smashed Byzantine Empire, they captured whole territory of the country. During the whole 15th–17th centuries all the territory of modern Armenia was a real arena of constant wars between Persia and Ottoman Turkey. In 1639, there was a division of Armenia between them. The cultural development of Armenia was interrupted by the Persian and Turkish rule, the progress of the nation was held back. The Armenian people managed to retain their semi-independent principalities just in the highland impregnable regions of Artsakh (Karabagh) and Syunik. Meanwhile, in the beginning of the seventeenth century Russian campaigns in the Caucasus started. The result of the Russian-Persian war was the fallowing: Eastern Armenia became affiliated with Russia in 1828. The Ottoman Empire was still dominated the Western Armenia. We have to notice that the Turkish government executed fierce anti-Armenian policy (during the years of World War I it reached height of terror). All this was carried out with the aim of cleansing of the Armenians from the regions. The Young Turk government from 1915-1918 realized the deportation and annihilation of the Armenian population of their Western Armenia. Today we know this tragedy as the Armenian Genocide. It resulted in the deaths of one and a half million people. Armenia has lost most of its native population.
The independent Armenian republic was proclaimed for the first time directly on the territory of Eastern Armenia in 1918. In November 1920, the Soviet power was established. On the 21 of September, 1991 the Republic of Armenia was founded.
